Who Can Go?
Snowflake is FREE to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who attend Evanston/Skokie District 65 schools. PEER Services, in partnership with District 65, provides transportation to the event, t-shirts, snacks, and dinner at no charge.
While no cost is required to attend, there is a suggested donation of $10 to help offset the event’s cost. Please click here to donate to Snowflake. Please indicate that your donation is for the Snowflake program. Checks can also be made payable to PEER Services and mailed to 906 Davis St., Evanston, IL 60201.
History of Snowflake
Evanston middle school students have been living it up at Snowflake since 2001, when it was first held in our community. Snowflake is an annual event that typically takes place in February. The Evanston Snowflake event is part of a larger, statewide initiative, Operation Snowball, which is sponsored by the Illinois Association of Behavioral Health.
Snowflake aims to teach attendees important life skills, such as decision-making, problem solving, communication, and drug refusal techniques in the coolest and most interactive ways possible. Evanston’s Snowflake event engages middle school, high school, and Northwestern University students, as well as adults from the community, in order to create a fun and meaningful experience for all involved. As part of our planning process, we convene a group of middle school students who serve as the advisory planning group. These students decide the event’s annual theme, select small group activities that reflect the theme, and design the event’s t-shirt.
PEER Services would like to thank those who have supported the Snowflake event in Evanston. Without their support, this event would not be possible. Supporters include Evanston/Skokie School District 65, the Evanston Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, North End Mother’s Club, Trader Joe’s, Jewel Osco, Sam’s Club, Gigio’s Pizzeria, and individual donors.
